After the 2008 crash, many of my friends lost their jobs, were struggling to find work, and many stay at home moms went back into the workforce. I saw the opportunity to help even the playing field by giving women a confidence boost and helping them look and feel put together and powerful.

A tucked in shirt is a slimming and authoritative look on most women. But that perfect tuck doesn't last very long. Bending down to pick up toys- holding the rail on the subway, or hailing a cab can leave you a disheveled mess before you’ve even begun your work day.

With the gender pay gap, and not enough women in top positions, I passionately want to play my part to even the playing field for women in the workplace, and see to it that every ambitious woman is equipped with the wardrobe she needs to feel confident and look amazing while doing her job. I started Bradamant to keep women tucked in. I didn’t invent the bodysuit, but I certainly improved it. Bradamant Bodysuits offer the gorgeous fabrication and detail of a designer top- coupled with the practicality and comfort of a bodysuit in an affordable package. What makes our product unique is the designed by women for women, attention to detail you’re getting.

When you get dressed properly- you bring you’re A-game. It’s physiological. Like wearing the right shoes, tucking gives you a head start and signals to your brain- this is on.

Bradamant was a female knight, from the renaissance period. She rode in to battle with her father and brother to protect her son. I am so inspired by the legend, and I wanted to pick an icon for our brand who could lead us on our revolution. Feminine, strong and defiant.

How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?

Our first sales came in from gifting product to bloggers. Now our email news letters, special promotions, and birthday club are promising sources of revenue. We are also exploring the interaction between in-person events, and online sales, aka. 'showrooming.'

Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?

We are fulfilled by amazon. for the mostpart, we find amazon fulfillment and Shopify play nicely together. We love how easy the backend is to teach new hires to use, and are working on implementing a smoother returns process. Some apps have been great, we love the Coolence Abandoned cart app, Order Lookup App, and Modify Promotional Lightbox.

What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?

I think it's really important to start small. Test your market, and don't believe any feedback from anyone who didn't pay for the item. If you build it, they will not necessarily come, so it's important to have a plan for being discovered. (hint: SEO is not a silver bullet!)
