Bohemian: A person, as an artist or writer, who lives and acts free of regard for conventional rules and practices. Bomisch: An online marketplace for the non-traditional individual.

I offer the unique qualities found in a neighborhood shop, online. Bomisch focuses on well-made, bohemian goods that are aesthetically pleasing and serve a purpose either in the home, garden, or for the individual.

Each item in the shop has been selected with care, intent, and reason. Bomisch endlessly searches for one-of-a-kind items at markets across the country during travels, local hand-made goods crafted by artisans, and specialty items with a conscience. I love found, repurposed, green, and handmade. I strive to work with local and independent vendors as much as possible to help grow small businesses, like mine.

How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?

My first sale was came from my cousin. She was patiently waiting for my online store to open, and the minute it did, she ordered all the goodies she wanted. I think most small businesses begin with support from family and friends until the word can be spread and organic growth begins.

Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?

I handle all shipping and fulfillment myself, store all of the inventory in a storage unit that is climate controlled and venture over to the unit every few days to gather the goods for orders that have come in. I then package them, ink them with my Bomisch logo stamp, and walk to the post office. I use USPS for most of my shipping needs as they seem to be the most cost efficient. For large goods, UPS can usually offer a better rate.

I am currently using the Mailchimp app for delivering Bomisch's newsletter, pluginSEO, Product Feeds by Yahoo, the Shopify Facebook Store app, Gift Cards by eShop Admin.

What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?

If being a store owner is your passion, give it your all and use your heart, creative talents and unique ideas to grow your store into the shop you imagine.

Make changes one at a time.

Read up on SEO so you understand how your changes effect not only the appearance but your search engine traffic. In addition, spend money on a professional team to help with SEO. There is so much to know and learn that an expert really is worth the money.

Take a photography class. Product photos are what your customer is relying on to make their buying decision. Set aside a day each week to photograph the new goods. Scope out a aesthetically pleasing location (this is half the fun) and figure out the time of day that will provide the best lighting for photos.

Treat each customer as if they are your only one. Good customer service will gain you repeat business (and emails from them giving you kudos, which is always lovely).

Reflect and appreciate your hard efforts. Being an entrepreneur is rewarding but can be stressful. Make sure to take time each day to just be.
